DUBAI- Sheikh Diab bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Chairman of the Department of Transport and Member of the Abu Dhabi Executive Council, has reviewed the projects and initiatives currently undertaken by the Roads and Transport Authority, RTA, to improve the infrastructure of roads network and mass transit systems in Dubai.

Mattar Al Tayer, Director-General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of the RTA, and a host of RTA leaders received Sheikh Diab at the RTA premises.

He was accompanied by Falah Mohammed Al Ahbabi, Chairman of the Department of Urban Planning and Municipalities, and Khalifa Mohammed Al Mazrouei, Under-Secretary of the Department of Transport in Abu Dhabi.

At the start of the visit, Sheikh Diab was briefed on the achievements of the RTA since its inception in November 2005 as well as its business processes and organisational chart modelled after the worlds best practices of boosting governance through separating legislation and monitoring from implementation and operation.

He also reviewed RTAs Strategic Plan 2017-2021 and the key enablers of realising its vision and strategic objectives.

Sheikh Diab was also briefed on the methodologies adopted by the RTA in the construction of the Dubai Metro and the key success factors of the project. He was familiarised with an array of road and mass transport projects undertaken by the RTA to serve the needs of hosting Expo 2020 in Dubai highlighted by the Route 2020 project.

Accompanied by Al Tayer, he then visited the Enterprise Command and Control Centre that monitors and controls roads and transit systems in Dubai. It is considered one of the worlds largest and most sophisticated control centres in terms of smart technologies used, combined control and co-ordination between all the RTAs public transit systems, and the proper planning of mobility to address various challenges in the emirate. The Centre plays a key role in organising mobility during key exhibitions and events held in Dubai, especially the forthcoming Expo 2020 Dubai.

He was briefed on the taxi services in Dubai including Hala Taxi, Ladies Taxi, and Awnak service dedicated to serving people of determination and non-critical patients. The briefing also covered Tesla electric vehicles and the smart rental service provided by U-drive and Ekar.
