Kuwaitis abroad get extension

KUWAIT CITY, July 26

Ministry of Interior reached an agreement with Ministry of Foreign Affairs to extend the validity of old Kuwaiti passports for students, patients and their companions who are overseas until they return to the country, reports Al-Anba daily.

The ministry explained that the expiry dates of the expired passports of students on overseas scholarships have been extended through Kuwaiti embassies and diplomatic missions until December 31. Departures from the country after December 31 will be permitted only using the new electronic passports.

According to informed sources, General Department for Citizenship and Travel Documents issued more than 100,000 electronic passports since the launch of its issuance. Employees of the centers for the issuance of electronic passports in all six governorates are exerting tremendous efforts to complete the project for issuance of electronic passports to all Kuwaitis as soon as possible.

Meanwhile, the Civil Service Commission (CSC) declared the launch of the automated interface with Ministry of Interior to access criminal records of Kuwaitis before they are employed in governmental bodies, reports Al-Shahed daily.

The interface with be between the CSC database and that of Criminal Evidences Department of Ministry of Interior.

And, Ministry of Interior informed the committee in charge of studying the points of interpellation of His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Jaber Al-Mubarak, which took place two years ago concerning “citizenship revocation” that the decision was in accordance with legal frameworks following the discovery of fraud in the files of some citizens, reports Al-Rai daily quoting informed sources.

They explained that 53 files were referred to the Public Prosecution. Many fraud cases are being studied by the judiciary. This referral of files was in line with legal frameworks.
