DUBAI, 19th January, 2017 (WAM) -- The Pharmaceuticals and Medical Equipment taskforce has held a number of meetings and workshops to identify key initiatives that will help drive growth and achieve the objectives of the Dubai Industrial Strategy.

A key enabler of Dubai Plan 2021, the strategy aims to establish the foundations of a sustainable dynamic economy based on research, knowledge, and development. This will help achieve the goal of making Dubai a unique investment destination, and will take the industrial sector into a new phase of growth that is compatible with the aspirations and vision of the UAE to maximise the contributions of this vital sector in the post-oil era.

Chaired by Marwan Abdulaziz Janahi, Executive Director of Dubai Science Park, a member of TECOM Group, the Pharmaceuticals and Medical Equipment taskforce is expected to play an integral role in increasing investments in research and development and enhancing pharmaceutical infrastructure and manufacturing capabilities.

Since 2005, Dubai Science Park has enabled the growth of Dubais life science, environmental science, and renewable energy business community. With continued investment in infrastructure, Dubai Science Park has attracted some of the worlds leading firms and experts in the field of pharmaceutical manufacturing and pharmatech.

Commenting on the announcement, Mr. Janahi said, "The Dubai Industrial Strategy will reimagine Dubais role in the global economic landscape, and will enable the emirates transformation into a diversified and sustainable economy. I am honoured to collaborate with the various sector taskforces under the supervision of the Executive Council of Dubai. This collaboration complements our work at Dubai Science Park and we have a great responsibility to enhance the competitiveness of the industrial sector and to achieve a unified vision allowing us to promote Dubai's position as a global economic hub. The strategy, as outlined by our leadership, has clear objectives and initiatives to strengthen the competitive capabilities of the industrial sector and enhance industrial integration in Dubai." "The pharmaceutical and medical equipment sector is a key facet of Dubais industrial and manufacturing base and has the potential to drive significant medium to long-term economic growth. Through investing in advanced technology, collaborating with academia and research institutions, and equipping the next generation of science leaders with the skills needed to contribute to a knowledge-based economy, we aim to enhance research and development and establish local pharmaceutical manufacturing capabilities." With more than ten years of experience at Dubai Science Park, Janahi has been instrumental in establishing Dubai Science Park as the regions leading community for research and innovation in the sciences, attracting more than 300 companies and strengthening partnerships among corporations, universities, and communities.
