Dubai: The annual Indian Independence Day cricket tournament will held on September 26 at the Seven Seas Sports Club DIP to celebrate the 69th Indian Independence Day that took place on August 15.

The seven-a-side tournament, a consistent feature for years, will be competed by six ‘B’ Division teams. Ardent cricket lover Freddy Sidhwa of Seven Seas and Deepak Arora of City Diamond who have been supporting this event for 14 years will donate the prizes this year too. Senior UAE Umpire Tariq Butt, who has been organising this festival cricket event for the last 27 years in the UAE, told Gulf News: “I am delighted that for so many years I have been able to stage these tournaments without a break and it has been possible due to the support from the many passionate cricket lovers here,”

The participating teams are ANIB Green, ANIB Blue, Fanatics C.C., Global Lion, Lonik Panther and Desert King Waterproofing. The opening match will be between ANIB Green and Desert King Waterproofing at 7am.

In the Al Ain Floodlit Twenty20 cricket tournament being held at the Multiplex ground in Al Ain, Abu Dhabi Media scored a stunning 77 run win over Lankan Lions

Batting first, Abu Dhabi Media put up a challenging 184 runs for the loss of eight wickets. Sheraz Khan and Mushtaq Ahmad scored 27 runs each. In reply, K. Rowaid’s four-wicket haul for 14 runs helped bowl out Lanka Lions to 109 in 18.3 overs. K Ajith (26) and M Suresh (24) were the only Lions batmen to withstand the Media attack.
