Dubai, UAE: Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA)’s Youth Council organised a discussion panel called ‘Youth power and the future of energy.’ The panel highlighted the capabilities of youth to establish energy start-ups, as part of the virtual bootcamp of the Free Electrons Cycle 5 that DEWA has organised for the first time in Dubai. The Free Electrons is a world-class accelerator that encourages start-ups to create innovative solutions in the energy sector. Some 126 representatives of utilities and energy start-ups attended the panel discussion from 19 countries in addition to some DEWA employees.

HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA, said that DEWA is one of the prominent members of the Free Electrons alliance. It promotes international cooperation between utilities and energy start-ups to encourage successful solutions for current and future challenges and meet future energy demands worldwide. DEWA supports the wise leadership’s vision to engage youth in sustainable development, build partnerships and create opportunities that achieve public benefit. This supports the UAE and Dubai’s position as a platform for creativity and incubator for innovators as well as one of the most prepared nations for the future worldwide.

“DEWA’s Youth Council supports the organisation’s efforts to invest in youth capabilities and consolidate their role in energy. It also harnesses research and the latest innovative technologies to achieve it. The Council empowers youth, qualifies them and provides them with all capabilities to increase their contribution in different areas of development. This enhances DEWA’s globally leading position in different areas,” said Aysha Mohammad Alremeithi, DEWA’s Youth Council President.

The virtual Free Electrons bootcamp included panel discussions, presentations and meetings between utilities and start-ups from around the world.
