OPEC member Kuwait has invited bids from seven foreign companies for a contract to conduct seismic surveys for oil exploration, a local newspaper said on Sunday.

State-owned Kuwait Oil Company (KOC) set 4 January 2021 as a bidding deadline and invited representatives from bidding firms to meet on 7 December to explain the project for oil exploration in Western Kuwait, the Arabic language daily Alanba said.

It quoted KOC sources as saying the firms include Global Geophysical Services, Geokinetics and SAExploration of the US, the UK-based WesternGeco, China Petroleum & Chemical Corporation (Sinopec), China BGP and the Saudi-based Arabian Geophysical & Surveying Company (ARGAS).

"The sources said that the seismic survey operations will begin in 2021 as part of KOC's strategy to develop its hydrocarbon resources," the report said.
