Dubai, UAE: In conjunction with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Knowledge Foundation (MBRF) organised a training workshop in Amman for 40 young men and women.
Focusing on using data and the workplace skills of the future, the activity complemented the efforts of Knowledge Week, which was hosted by MBRF in March this year in collaboration with UNDP and the Jordanian Ministry of Youth. Knowledge Week was established to motivate Jordanian youth to design a detailed plan of action to address the challenges in building a knowledge-basedsociety.
Participants in the workshop were selected based on their previous involvement in the Knowledge Index Workshop, organised during Knowledge Week, which was held under the patronage of Jordanian Prime Minister Dr. Omar Al Razzaz.
Included as part of the three-day workshop were sessions that discussed the importance of benefiting from the media and social media in the area of skills development. The participants performed analytical and logical reasoning to generate practical recommendations to help decision-makers in reinforcing efforts towards building a strong knowledge-based society. They also completed a practical training test.
At the end of the workshop, 15 participants were selected to join Knowledge Camps, which will be launched by the Ministry of Youth to run for two months from mid-June 2019. The selected participants will take part in the camps to train hundreds of attendees aged 14 to 17 years and share with them the knowledge and skills they themselves had acquired during the workshop.
Attending the workshop was the Jordanian Minister of Youth, H.E. Dr. Mohammed Abu Rumman, who listened to the input of the youth about Knowledge Week, the workshop itself and the future activities that will be held to complement it, including the Knowledge Camps.
"The Knowledge Week, organised by the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Knowledge Foundation and the United Nations Development Programme in Jordan earlier this year, sought to create an important knowledge movement at the regional level. It aims to contribute to finding solutions to the challenges that face building knowledge societies and developing youth skills in line with future requirements and the sustainable development of the region. MBRF and the UNDP will continue to exert more efforts to enrich this movement in several Arab countries and to do so in such a manner that contributes to creating a measurable positive impact on the knowledge capacities of young people across all important fields,” said H.E. Jamal bin Huwaireb, CEO of Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Knowledge Foundation.
“The workshop was organised under the umbrella of the UNDP and MBRF’s Knowledge Project and in line with the continuous efforts to raise awareness on the importance of knowledge and knowledge-based policies for sustainable development,” said Dr. Hany Torky, Chief Technical Advisor, Arab Knowledge Project, UNDP.
The Knowledge Camps are a new initiative from Jordan's Ministry of Youth and aim to capitalize on the success of Knowledge Week. The initiative aims to train young people on the future skills needed for the labour market, such as critical thinking, problem-solving and data handling. The camps seek to train some 700 young men and women from various governorates across Jordan.
