Sharjah - UAE cricketers have welcomed the opportunity to play in the T10 Cricket League. Shaiman Anwar, who cracked a century in the 2015 World Cup, has an aggressive style of batting which will be suitable for the format.
Speaking to Gulf News, Shaiman, who is a member of the Maratha Arabian team, said: “It is a special feeling to be with great players and even play cricket under the guidance of head coach Wasim Akram and batting coach Faisal Iqbal [nephew of Javed Miandad]. It will be an unforgettable experience.”
Pacer Zahoor Khan, who produced some deadly spells for UAE, is also part of Maratha Arabians team and is looking forward to showcasing his ability.
UAE’s tall and lanky pacer Amjad Javed, who will play alongside Shahid Afridi for Pakhtoons, said: “I am super excited to be part of Pakhtoons team and share the dressing room with Afridi who is favourite of all fans. It will be a new chapter in my career and the exposure can lead to more opportunities.”
UAE middle order batsman Rameez Shahzad, who is part of the Bengal Tigers, said: “It’s an amazing feeling to be with Sarfraz Ahmad, Darren Sammy and Anwar Ali. It is like being with the big boys now. Best thing is we can learn so much from them as I am a batsman and can get to work with Sarfraz and seek his help.”
Mohammad Naveed, also of Bengal Tigers, said: “I had recently played with Sammy when I played in the Hong Kong sixes tournament and is a great chance for a pacer like me to be with great bowlers in the team.”
UAE skipper Rohan Mustafa, who will turn out for Kerala Kings, said: “I have spoken even in Malayalam urging everyone to come and support the team. It is a great chance.”
Another UAE-based player Gulam Shabber, the left-handed wicketkeeper batsman, will play for Punjab Legends.
