Dubai-UAE: – His Excellency Mohammad Al Gergawi, Minister of Cabinet Affairs and the Future, has emphasized that the strategic partnership agreement between the UAE and the Arab Republic of Egypt to modernize government work is a prime example of the fruitful Arab collaboration that the UAE is seeking to reinforce and deepen under the visionary leadership of the UAE President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, and with the directions of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.

His Excellency Al Gergawi pointed out that the outcomes of this partnership have proven that the full integration and modernization of government work is essential to enhancing the future of coming generations and societies in the region. He underscored that the exchange of knowledge and best practices is crucial to achieving the necessary development in government work.

The Minister’s comments came during the conclusion of the second capacity-building training program for Egyptian government officials organized in Cairo as a collaboration between the UAE Ministry of Cabinet Affairs and the Future and Egypt’s Ministry of Planning, Follow-Up and Administrative Reform. The program was held as part of a strategic partnership agreement signed between the two countries in April 2018 to improve Egypt’s government performance through strengthening the expertise of government employees and enable the nation to achieve the objectives of Egypt Vision 2030.

Drawing the participation of 500 employees from several Egyptian ministries, the training program focused on the most important future challenges and opportunities that institutions and individuals around the globe must address in order to ensure the sustained advancement of various aspects of departmental operations.

The program featured three main sessions titled Global Trends and Outlook, Change Management and the Effective Change Model - the Role of Government in Meeting Global Challenges, and The Fundamentals of Strategic Success and Strategic Management Elements.

The three sessions were headlined by Dr Hamad Ahmed Al Darmaki, Director of Strategy and Performance Development Department at Abu Dhabi Police, Aziz Al Ameri, Chief of Happiness and positivity officer, and His Excellency Mohamed Hassan, Executive Director for National Statistics & Data Sector at the Federal Competitiveness & Statistics Authority.

Highlighting the importance of technology in the operation of government departments and its impact in enhancing the efficiency of government services, the sessions also examined the role of data collection and analysis in identifying customer needs. They stressed the need to formulate detailed strategies to keep pace with technological developments that focused on modernizing systems and infrastructure, and on leveraging tools to enhance the knowledge of public sector employees in achieving customer happiness.

The sessions urged government departments to implement change management systems and set clear objectives for all government employees so that they can continue their journey collectively to achieve these goals. These objectives can be tied in with indicators to measure the performance of the department in general, and the excellence of individuals in particular. The experts conducting the sessions also called for creating incentives to award excellence and encourage high performing employees to continue to innovate in achieving the strategies outlined by the concerned departments towards meeting the government’s vision.

The strategic partnership for enhancing government work between the UAE and Egypt includes conducting a series of initiatives and workshops throughout the year, and establishing joint task forces to implement these projects. The partnership has so far witnessed the launch of the Egypt Government Excellence Award, the Egypt Government Excellence Conference, and led to several joint events.
