GAC Qatar, the local unit of Sweden-based logistics company GAC, said on Monday that it broke ground for its new 27,000 square metre multi-user contract logistics facility in the Ras Bufontas Free Zone.

The facility is expected to be completed by early 2022, GAC said in a press statement.

An agreement for the project was inked with the Qatar Free Zones Authority (QFZA) in February, it said.

GAC said the facility would be built from sustainable materials, use solar power and recycled water in its operations, and incorporate energy-saving features.

The statement said the demand for GAC's integrated solutions "is expected to be bolstered by the North Field expansion project and the global soccer event in 2022.
