Bahrain's Ministry of Works, Municipalities Affairs and Urban Planning has floated a tender for widening and deepening the Ma'ameer Canal in Manama.

The tender submission deadline is 13 September, 2020 for opening on 14 September, 2020, according to a ministry notification.

The project is part of the comprehensive plan to develop the Tubli Bay and its surrounding areas in order to improve water flow through the bay and preserve the protected zone.

The $366 million Tubli Bay development project includes the expansion of the canal located South of Ma'ameer to 270 metres from 30 metres and constructing 12 additional canals with a total length of 70 metres at the water crossing below Shaikh Jaber Al-Ahmed Al-Sabah Street, also known as Ma'ameer crossing, which currently consists of only six waterways at a total length of 23 metres, according to a weekly cabinet meeting notice announced last November.

The plan also includes a hydrodynamic research study of water movement and quality in Tubli Bay, planting mangroves and a water treatment facility using advanced technologies.

In May 2020, Bahrain News Agency (BNA) reported the Ministry of Works, Municipalities Affairs and Urban Planning will complete BD 9.5 million ($25 million) worth of projects towards the Tubli Bay Development by 2021.
