Muscat, Oman: Ooredoo today announced the opening of a 5G experience zone in their Muscat Grand Mall store and a second zone will be showcased during the Khareef Festival at the Ooredoo stand, with the support of the TRA. The demonstrations will incorporate ultra-high-speed internet access, where customers will be able to check speeds using the latest technology; 5G mobile devices and CPE devices (routers). Also planned will be high speed video streaming and ultra-low latency online gaming.

Eng. Yousef Al Bulushi, Vice President for Spectrum Unit at the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority said: “the success of 5G development in Oman is a shared initiative between all government authorities linked to licenses, spectrum and building the infrastructure of this technology. The construction of 5G networks requires hundreds or even thousands of telecom towers and the connection of these needs fibre optic cables to be laid, or the installation of microwave connections (wireless devices). This cannot be achieved without the collaboration of all of the different parties involved.”

“We are very excited about bringing our 5G Supernet experience zones to Muscat and Salalah” said Ahmed Al Abri, Chief Technology and Information Officer at Ooredoo. “As the Sultanate’s data experience leaders, our aim is to give customers a fantastic digital experience so that they can enjoy the internet. Our 5G Supernet experience zones will give a flavor of the future.”

The next generation of wireless technology promises speeds up to 10 times faster than 4G, with download speeds of up to 1.5Gb per second, which has customers excited. Through the combination of speed, responsiveness and reach, it will also pave the way for other new technologies such as autonomous vehicles, virtual reality, and the Internet of Things, effectively changing peoples’ lives by connecting everything around them.
