Kuwait, Kuwait City: With the increased need for edge services, Ooredoo Telecom, the first to introduce innovative digital services in Kuwait, is constantly upgrading the way people communicate through offering the best and latest technologies and services. In the context of 5G, Ooredoo Kuwait is the first operator in the country, and among the first in the Middle East to deploy Dynamic Spectrum Sharing (DSS) to introduce 5G network.

The world has witnessed numerous changes in the realm of communication. Today, people are no longer use landlines, instead, everyone possesses one of the most advanced smart phones that connects them with the world at large. The increasing awareness of people with respect to latest technologies, products and services, ignites telecom companies to compete in offering customers the best 5G experience. Not to forget, Ooredoo Kuwait was one of the first operators to do a pre-commercial 5G launch in mid of 2018, which was followed by the first international 5G video call in the MENA region between Ooredoo Kuwait and Ooredoo Qatar.

The ultimate objective of the fifth generation (5G) is to create a real wireless world, and to provide an increased speed and capacity, higher data-rate and support connected devices in comparison to 4G wireless networks. Due to the high-frequency band spectrum used for 5G, Ooredoo continued its preparation for cell densification by increasing the rollout of new towers to offer customers the best 5G experience. In addition to cell densification, Ooredoo launched 5G on 2.1 GHz bands for better indoor 5G coverage. Implementing Dynamic Spectrum Sharing (DSS) enabled efficient and flexible use of spectrum and allowed Ooredoo Kuwait to carry 4G and 5G traffic concurrently on the same frequency band and using the existing hardware.

Essa Haider, Director Network Planning & Design, Ooredoo Kuwait, said: “Dynamic Spectrum Sharing is implemented as a software update to our network, which will allow an increased coverage with fewer new location in less time, enhance customers’ experience, and provide better nationwide indoor coverage.”

Essa added: “As a leading telecom company in Kuwait, it is our responsibility to continuously work for the betterment of the customer experience, and community. With no doubts, since the launching of 5G, the users’ expectations have reached the sky, people are now in need to the most efficient internet experience at minimal cost, and that, we own”.
