KUWAIT: The Kuwaiti Ministry of Electricity is determined to produce 15 percent of power from renewable energy by 2030, the country’s new electricity minister said. “The Electricity Ministry commits itself to generating 15 percent of power out of renewably energy by 2030,” Bakheet Al-Rasheedi, who holds the oil, electricity and water portfolios, said while welcoming well-wishers. Renewably energy production will start at Dibdibah solar-power plant by generating approximately 1,500 megawatts in the initial stage and then the required output by 2030, the minister added.

On a plan to transfer the ministry into an institution, the minister hailed it as a “very significant project” that aims at boosting the efficiency of the ministry’s operations in general. Meanwhile, the minister noted that negotiations for importing Iraqi gas has made some progress, expecting both sides to reach the final price within a couple of months’ time. – KUNA
