Amman - Prime Minister Hani al-Mulki on Sunday said his government will set a price ceiling for bread and will not allow anyone to sell above that celling, vowing strict punitive measures against violators.

Al-Mulki made the remarks during a meeting with market controllers and ministry of industry, trade and supply officials. He emphasized the importance that bakeries abide by the price ceiling and deliver quality products to the consumer.

During a tour of Civil Consumer Corporation and Military Consumer Corporation markets in Amman, the prime minister said the two corporations kept prices unchanged in 2015, 2016 and 2017 and will do so in 2018.

He indicated that his government allocated JOD10 million to support both corporations to maintain price stability, adding that the government was ready to extend further financial support if needed.

The prime minister ordered market controllers and competent bodies to intensify control and monitoring of markets to crackdown on any price hike and apply the law on violators.
