Tehran, Jan 27, IRNA - Managing Director of National Iranian Gas Exporting Company (NIGEC) said that draft agreements for turning gas into electricity and then exporting it have been signed with five Iranian companies.

Ali-Reza Kameli said that Iran Power Generation and Transmission Company (TAVANIR) is probably negotiating with those companies which need that company's permit for electricity exports.

'Sharp decline of the oil and gas prices has led the companies with which we had reached agreement to export gas to survey the possibility of turning gas to electricity before exporting it,' he added.

He said that none of those companies have still gained TAVANIR's permit.

Kameli meanwhile said that those five companies have still not contacted the NIGEC either.

The Iranian Petroleum Ministry has reportedly agreed with electricity exports as an alternative for gas exports.
