ArabFinance: Egypt’s planning minister Hala el Said approved EGP 200 million more allocations for the electricity and housing ministries, according to an official statement.

Each government body will be earmarked EGP 100 million to complete the development works of the Ring Road, the statement highlighted. This amount comes as part of fiscal year (FY) 2020/2021 plan.

El Said elaborated that expanding the Ring Road aims to accommodate more vehicles, while reducing car accidents.

Last October, the minister gave the green light for boosting the General Authority for Roads, Bridges, and Land Transport’s plan with EGP 1 billion during FY 2020/2021, according to the statement.

Transport minister Kamel el Wazir earlier revealed that the Cairo Ring Road would be expanded from eight lanes to 14, to reach 60 meters in width.

The Egyptian government, meanwhile, is establishing a bus rapid transit system on the Ring Road across the Greater Cairo.
