Egypt has approved the construction of a large car services city that will comprise car showrooms, banks, restaurants and other facilities, a local newspaper has said.

President Abdul Fattah Al-Sisi has given the green light for the “global car city” project  that will have a capacity to house more than 4,000 vehicles, the Arabic language daily Al-Watan said, adding that the project would be based in the capital Cairo.

The project, spread over an area of around 140,000 sq metres, will comprise services centres for new and used vehicles, maintenance and repair facilities, spare parts shops, banks, restaurants and cafes, shops, finance firms and other facilities, it said.

“The city will include six large waiting areas and 10 gates for government fees so it will provide services to thousands of people every day,” the paper said without mentioning when the project would be launched or its costs.
