Bilateral trade between Dubai and China reached 36 billion UAE dirhams ($9.8 billion) in the first quarter of 2019, Dubai Customs said in a press statement on Wednesday.

Telecom equipment, phones, personal computers, aluminium, gold, automobiles, and engines topped the list of most traded commodities between Dubai and China, which touched 139 billion dirhams ($37.8 billion) in 2018, the press statement said.

The statement noted that the Mutual Recognition Agreement signed between the UAE Federal Customs Authority and the General Administration of Customs of the People's Republic of China (GACC) for the implementation of the Authorised Economic Operator (AEO) programme would boost China-UAE partnership for China's Belt and Road programme, where the UAE is a key partner.

Currently, 876 active Chinese businesses are registered with Dubai Customs, including 623 firms holding trade license, 244 licensed free zone establishments, and nine companies with professional license, the statement concluded.
