UAE - Mubasher: The Abu Dhabi Department of Energy (DoE) has inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Huawei to collaborate in research, development, and capability-building and exchange knowledge to develop the emirate's energy sector.

Under the agreement, the DoE and Huawei will set up a plan to deploy intelligent applications in the energy sector and measures to raise the efficiency of information technology and security, according to a press release on Tuesday.

In addition, the two parties seek to develop AI-based, hi-tech solutions to analyse health, safety, and environment (HSE) incidents in the energy sector and assess performance based on available data.

The DoE Undersecretary, Mohammad bin Jarsh Al Falasi, said: "In light of the rapid developments brought on by the Fourth Industrial Revolution, we must strive to always be up to date, identify promising opportunities and potential challenges, and find innovative solutions to forecast the future of energy and expedite the transition towards clean and sustainable sources."

Meanwhile, the CEO of Huawei UAE, Jiawei Liu, commented: "As part of this collaboration, Huawei will leverage its long-standing expertise in the information technology sector to help DoE in unlocking new opportunities in the energy sector that would drive the sector further."
