Iraq is planning to rebuild nearly 80 factories by offering them to private investors after they were crippled by internal hostilities that have hit the OPEC member over the past few years, Iraq's Industry and Mines Minister was quoted on Wednesday as saying.

Manhal Al-Khabbaz said the factories are located in various parts of Iraq, mainly in war-hit governorates, and they cover several light industries.

"We have drafted plan to rebuild and rehabilitate around 80 factories that have been paralyzed over the past years as part of the Ministry's strategy to rebuild the country's industrial sector," Khabbaz told the official daily Al-Sabah.

He said the projects would be offered to local and foreign investors with the aim of "creating real investment opportunities and partnerships with domestic and international companies" adding that the rehabilitation and expansion of the industrial sector would be on a short and long term basis.
