Bahrain's Ministry of Works, Municipalities Affairs and Urban Planning is negotiating to finalise the Ras Raya port development project, a senior official has said.

Eng. Essam bin Abdullah Khalaf, Minister of Works, Municipalities Affairs and Urban Planning, said the ministry is currently negotiating to finalise a deal to develop the Ras Raya port. The project forms part of the ministry's plan to partner with the private sector to develop ports in Bahrain and improve the services provided in them, a ministry press release quoted the minister as saying.

Zawya Projects last year reported that the ministry had invited bids from the private sector to invest and develop two harbours - one in Ras Raya for a 25 year period and another in Budaiya for a 22 year period.

Last month the ministry floated a consultancy contract to provide advisory services for generating investments in Bahrain's fishing harbours, according to a Bahrain Tender Board notice.
