Saudi Arabia, Riyadh:   As we recover from COVID-19, it is critical that we build back greener and more resilient, protecting the environment for future generations. Our world continues to get hotter, and climate change is a challenge for all. It is crucial that all countries and people take action to safeguard our planet.

Today, the British Embassy in Riyadh launched the #TogetherForOurPlanet __# campaign, calling on all of society to pledge one climate action to stop climate change.  The campaign drives awareness about the impact of human actions on climate change, and calls on the private sector, institutions, individuals and the wider community in Saudi Arabia to do their part in helping to tackle global warming.  Individuals and organisations can share their pledge on their social media channels tagging @UKinSaudiArabia and using the campaign hashtags.

Speaking to social media influencer Rajeh AlHarthi, British Ambassador to Saudi Arabia Neil Crompton said:

“Climate change is real and affects us all. Saudi leadership on climate and environment is critical as we accelerate progress towards achieving our global climate commitments. At the Riyadh G20 Summit last year, under Saudi Presidency, world leaders supported the Circular Carbon Economy framework, and reaffirmed commitments to the Paris Agreement. The UK and Saudi Arabia share common areas of focus, including on transitioning to clean energy, research into energy efficiency and green technologies, and protecting nature.

In November, the UK will host the UN climate change conference COP26, in Glasgow, in partnership with Italy.  COP26 is an opportunity and pivotal moment for countries to work together to combat climate change and commit to urgent action.  Every one of us has a part to play. #TogetherForOurPlanet

The social media campaign in Saudi Arabia, is a part of the global campaign #Togetherforourplanet in the lead up to COP26, Together for Our Planet.  COP26 (the United Nations 26th annual session of the Conference of the Parties to the Convention), will bring together world leaders, delegates, climate experts and negotiators to agree coordinated action to tackle climate change. The British Embassy in Riyadh along with partner and organisations is encouraging everyone to work together to protect the planet and ensure a greener, more resilient future for us all.
