We are very pleased to announce that after a careful selection process, we have found our Head of Secondary for The Aquila School. Operated by International Schools Partnership (ISP), a global group of 45 schools, which offers financial security and outstanding international learning opportunities during this difficult time, The Aquila School has appointed Lee Fabia in this strategic role.

Lee joins The Aquila School from a High School in the UK, where he led significant improvements in attainment, curriculum enhancement and the wellbeing of children.  His role will be key to developing the Secondary School, ensuring that Aquila becomes one of the leading UK curriculum schools in Dubai.

Lee’s aspirations for The Aquila School are to build on the successes of the school and focus on developing amazing learning opportunities underpinned by evidence-based research. One such example is the Rosenshine, 2012 ‘Principles of Instruction’ methodology, which is acknowledged as one of the most effective strategies employed by teachers who have a high impact on children’s progress.  Lee also wants to further develop the curriculum to encourage progression as children move through the Secondary school. Lee is also passionate about reading and is dedicated to ensuring all pupils gain a love of reading.

Principal Wayne Howsen explained how important it was to ensure they found the right addition to the team.  “We had many excellent candidates, but Lee stood out as he has a clear understanding of best practice in Key Stages 3-5 and shows a great understanding of amazing learning and a commitment to making The Aquila School the school of choice for our community for many years to come. We were fortunate that we have not had to make any salary cuts or involuntary redundancies at the school during this time, and were able to continue investing in our people,” he said.

Lee commented about joining the team at The Aquila School: “I am thrilled to be Head of Secondary at The Aquila School and look forward to ensuring all children experience amazing learning opportunities to maximise their progress.  I was drawn to the school because of its relentless focus on real learning for the future. Children at The Aquila School are impressive: they are independent, creative, caring, resilient, ambitious and their unique talents and interests are nurtured. I look forward to working alongside Wayne and Kylie to create an aspirational, inclusive and world-class learning community.  Amazing learning will be at the heart of all that we do - teachers who know their subjects thoroughly and constantly strive to make the knowledge, skills, and understanding accessible, meaningful, enjoyable and challenging,” he added.

Lee has over 12 years of experience, including seven years as a senior leader in two large Secondary schools. His past roles include Senior Assistant Head Teacher with a whole school responsibility for teaching, learning, assessment, curriculum design, continuous professional development and staff appraisal. He has also held the position of Director of English where he led a large team to achieve outstanding pupil outcomes in English Language and English Literature qualifications.

Lee is committed to professional development both for himself and others.  He completed the National College’s Teaching Leaders qualification, he has a degree in English, a PGCE in Secondary Education, Qualified Teacher Status, and a Masters Degree in Education Leadership, Management and Pedagogy.

Bharat Mansukhani, Regional Managing Director, International Schools Partnership is confident that Lee’s addition to the team will help to ensure The Aquila School continues on its path to becoming one of the leading UK curriculum schools in Dubai. “We are excited to welcome Lee to the growing team at The Aquila School. We are confident that his leadership experience will go a long way in further enhancing the reputation for amazing learning that Wayne and his team have developed for Aquila. Lee is a passionate educator and is committed to improving the life chances of young people so that they can flourish and be the best versions of themselves. ” he concluded.

The Aquila School is owned and operated by International Schools Partnership and Dubai based MBM Group. For more information about the Aquila school please contact +971 (0) 4 586 2700, or visit www.theaquilaschool.com.
