Dubai – The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) in Dubai announced a donation of AED5 million to the ‘100 Million Meals’ campaign that aims to provide food parcels for disadvantaged individuals and families across 20 countries in the Middle East, Asia, and Africa.

The RTA’s donation comes as part of an immediate response to the largest food drive in the region that invites institutions, government agencies, companies, businessmen and members of the community in the UAE and abroad to donate and bring food security to millions of people in need during the holy month of Ramadan.

His Excellency Mattar Mohammed Al Tayer, Director General and Chairman of the Board of Directors of RTA, said the aim of providing 100 million meals to people in need is a clear example of the benevolence that is central to the UAE’s social fabric, laid by the nation’s late Founding Father, Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan. Doing good, His Excellency Mattar Al Tayer said, has become the instinctive approach of the UAE towards those in dire need of help.

Empowering benefactors globally

His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of UAE and Ruler of Dubai, announced the launch of the ‘100 Million Meals’ campaign on April 11 to support global efforts to combat hunger in lower-income groups across 20 countries including Sudan, Lebanon, Jordan, Pakistan, Angola and Uganda and Egypt.

Giving as an Approach

The ‘100 Million Meals’ campaign is an expansion of locally-held ‘10 Million Meals’ campaign launched during the Holy Month of Ramadan in 2020. It seeks to build on last year’s successes, while increasing the number of beneficiaries by tenfold. This year’s campaign comes as a response to accelerating international efforts to combat hunger and malnutrition, especially after COVID-19 pandemic pushed disadvantaged communities into greater food insecurity, poverty and unemployment.

Four easy donation channels

Donations to the ‘100 Million Meals’ campaign can be made in four ways: website, SMS, bank transfer and call center.

People inside and outside the UAE can donate online through the website www.100millionmeals.ae or through a bank transfer to the campaign’s account at Dubai Islamic Bank (AE080240001520977815201). Local donations can be made by sending “Meal” by SMS on specified numbers for Du or Etisalat listed on the website. Big monetary donations can be made through reaching out to the campaign’s team on the toll-free number 8004999.
