ArabFinance: The Egyptian Cabinet approved an entertainment tax exemption for Cairo Opera House during the July-September period, according to an official statement.

Chaired by Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly, the cabinet granted the cultural facility a break from paying an entertainment tax levied on all venues in Cairo, Alexandria, and Damanhour.

Theaters and cinemas were allowed to reopen in late June at a maximum capacity of 25%, in line with the gradual removal of the partial lockdown imposed in March due to the COVID-19 outbreak.

Egypt’s Ministry of Finance previously announced a revenue loss of EGP 75.80 million under the fun tax segment as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Last week, President Abdel Fattah el Sisi ratified a bill closing loopholes that previously gave a tax exemption for some government institutions investing in state debt.
