Nasser Saeed Al Tunaiji, director of safety and inspection department at the Sharjah Municipality, said Al Dhaid Municipality recently carried out inspection campaigns to reduce the illegal phenomena and maintain the general appearance of the city. Most of the violations noticed by the inspectors include placing discarded material, objects and wastes outside the premises which affect the general appearance of the city.
Al Tunaiji said the campaigns were part of the municipality's efforts to maintain a healthy environment, in line with the comprehensive vision of Sharjah. "The campaigns aim to raise environmental awareness among all sectors of the society, especially workers in industrial establishments. They have to oblige to implement the highest standards of occupational and environmental safety requirements."
The inspection also targeted various violations - sale and repair of car spare parts, scrap metal scrap, smelting, blacksmithing, welding.
The department inspected 421 industrial establishments for violations. Some of them were granted a grace period to adjust their conditions in accordance with the requirements of environmental safety prescribed, but they had failed to oblige by the municipality's instruction.
Al Tunaiji pointed out the importance of obtaining permits to display the goods outside the shops and ensuring the preservation of the overall appearance of the emirate. He urged shop owners to avoid the dumping of waste on roadsides or in front of the shop, and not leave cars for long periods outside the workshops.
