A four-day crackdown on establishments violating COVID-19 precautionary measures has resulted in the closure of at least three fitness and leisure facilities, it has been confirmed.
The facilities that were ordered to shut down were a rented playground, a swimming pool at a sports club and a sports academy, according to a statement issued by the Dubai Sports Council (DSC) on Sunday. Six other facilities were also asked to pay a fine, while 35 others were issued reprimands.
These are the latest closures and fines the authorities have ordered since inspections at commercial establishments have intensified recently.
The Dubai Economy had earlier issued warnings, fines and closure orders to business establishments around the emirate, including those that are operating in Mall of the Emirates and Dubai Mall.
A Dubai Economy spokesperson confirmed with Zawya that the government agency has recently carried out inspections with the DSC.
Officials have beefed up the monitoring of business premises following a surge in coronavirus cases.
Latest inspections
Inspectors from the Dubai Economy and Dubai Sports Council popped into 124 locations across the emirate and visited five sports events from September 15 to 19, to ensure compliance with the government’s safety protocols.
They found a range of violations, including crowding and failure to maintain safe distancing; gatherings in waiting areas, which are barred under COVID-19 protocols; non-compliance with the face mask rule and failure to check the temperature of all visitors and staff.
In a statement, the DSC warned that inspections will be further intensified in the coming days.
