Egypt’s Minister of Finance Mohamed Maait has announced that the deadline for submitting declarations for payroll tax (annual settlements) has been extended until the end of March.

The original deadline had been set for January 2021, however, directives were issued to extend the deadline for submission to the end of February 2021. This extension had been given due to the exceptional circumstances of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, and the Ministry’s keenness on providing full support to taxpayers.

Maait said that this deadline is final and will not be renewed. Moreover, the extension does not change the obligation to pay taxes in accordance with the provisions of Article 10 of the Income Tax Law No 91 of 2005.

In a statement issued by the Ministry of Finance on Monday, Maait said that extending the deadline comes as part of the ministry’s and Tax Authority’s keenness on facilitating procedures for taxpayers.

It comes particularly as individuals have been obliged to submit their tax returns electronically since the beginning of January 2021. The state has also provided support during the pandemic, in support for the bonds of trust between taxpayers and the Egyptian Tax Authority (ETA).

He stressed that all facilities will be provided to taxpayers and continuous and positive communication will continue to take place with them.
