An urgent proposal to have remote working continue permanently was forwarded to the Cabinet yesterday.
It is being spearheaded by five MPs led by Parliament public utilities and environment affairs committee chairman Hamad Al Kooheji, who believes physical presence is no longer necessary in the age of the coronavirus and after it.
“The success of remote working during the Covid-19 crisis has shown it to be healthy, more effective and achieve a lot,” he said.
“This means the former physical presence mechanism is unnecessary with modern technologies making things easier and possible.
“The temporary measure needs to be turned permanent as meetings, day-to-day work and interaction with the public and clients have continued.”
