UAE - Flydubai has announced the start of flights to Shymkent in Kazakhstan. The carrier said the twice-a-week service will be offered from December 28, 2018.

Flydubai has been flying to Kazakhstan since 2014 and together with the relaunched service to Shymkent and existing flights to Almaty and Astana will operate 13 weekly flights to three points in the country.

"We are pleased to see the strengthening of direct air links between the UAE and Kazakhstan, which provide more opportunities for the development of tourism and trade flows," Ghaith Al Ghaith, CEO of flydubai, said.

Jeyhun Efendi, senior vice-president, commercial operations and e-commerce for flydubai, said: "We are happy to offer passengers convenient, direct flights to Shymkent and we are looking forward to seeing more passengers flying to and from Kazakhstan. This market remains important for us and the new route will give passengers all over our network easier access to Kazakhstan as well as opening up the region for travel to Dubai and onwards."

Flydubai's growing network covers more than 90 destinations in 48 countries. Emirates will codeshare on this route as part of the Emirates flydubai partnership announced in July 2017.
