ArabFinance: The Minister of Transport Kamel el Wazir said that Egypt has received 20 new locomotives (railway tractors), according to the Cabinet’s statement.

This is the second batch as part of a contract between the Egyptian Railway Authority and GE Transportation (Wabtec).

Egypt has invested $602.05 million in this contract, el Wazir noted.

GE should supply a total of 110 locomotives in addition to developing another 81. Furthermore, the company will provide spare parts and services for 15 years.

El Wazir added that GE has manufactured 50 locomotives of which 30 were provided in the first batch.

This contract will enhance the Egyptian transport infrastructure.

It is worth mentioning that it was announced on March 26th that Egypt invested EGP 37 billion in a new signaling system.
