Egypt has received around two million tourists during the first five months of 2021, averaging 400,000 people per month, Gomhuria Online cited Tourism Minister Khaled El Enany.

In 2019, Egypt received just over 13 million tourists, equating to almost 1.1 million per month, generating $13 billion.

El Enany added that the country is targeting around eight million visitors and $8 billion by the end of 2021.

He further noted the ministry will invest $90 million in a new three-year international tourism promotion campaign that is expected to be launched this fall.

In May, Tourism Minister Khaled El Anany said that tourism revenues are expected to reach between $6 billion and $9 billion in 2021 due to the rise in arrivals from Eastern European and Gulf tourists.

With visitors numbers having risen to about 500,000 a month, Egypt is hoping for a total of more than 6 million tourists this year.

Earlier in May, the minister announced that Egypt’s tourism sector is expected to see recovery by mid-2022.

In April, Deputy Tourism Minister Ghada Shalaby said that Egypt expects to see tourism revenues between $6 billion to $7 billion in 2021 with tourist arrivals recovering to 60% of 2019 levels.

On April 25th, Spokesman of the Egyptian Presidency Bassam Rady announced that both Egypt and Russia have agreed to resume all flights between the two countries.

As many as 1 million Russian tourists could visit Egypt in 2021.
