Dubai’s long-haul operator Emirates Airline has signed a deal to establish a codeshare partnership with Gulf Air.

The agreement was signed during the first day of the Dubai Airshow, the largest gathering of aerospace industry players since the onset of the COVID-19 outbreak last year.

According to Gulf Air, the memorandum of understanding (MoU) will develop a “deeper commercial cooperation” between the two Middle East carriers. With the codeshare, members of Gulf Air’s Falconflyer members and Emirates’ Skywards will be able to enjoy “reciprocal” loyalty benefits.

Customers who choose to fly on Emirates and Gulf Air’s operated flights can purchase single-ticket travel, and one-stop baggage check-in to their final destinations, Gulf Air said in a statement released to the media at the Dubai Airshow.

Emirates will initially place its “EK” marketed code on Gulf Air operated flights between Bahrain and Dubai, and reciprocally, Gulf Air will add its “GF” marketed code to Emirates routes.

Once the codeshare takes effect, flyers will be able to book their travel with both airlines on emirates.com and gulfair.com, through online travel agencies as well as with local travel agents.

“This will be a remarkable partnership between one of the first airlines in the Gulf region and one of the biggest carriers in the world. We’re proud to explore opportunities with Emirates to expand our reach and at the same time extend our boutique services to Emirates’ passengers when flying on our network,” Captain Waleed AlAlawi, Gulf Air’s acting CEO said.
