Manama: Strong relations binding Bahrain and Saudi Arabia came under the spotlight yesterday during the first meeting of the co-ordination committee in charge of economic, energy, trade and industrial co-operation.

“Saudi Arabia remains by far Bahrain’s foremost economic partner, said Finance and National Economy Minister Shaikh Salman bin Khalifa Al Khalifa.

The virtual meeting was co-chaired by Shaikh Salman and Saudi Minister of Finance and Acting Minister of Economy and Planning Mohammed bin Abdullah Al Jadaan.

“Longstanding relations have yielded economic and trade initiatives and projects that supported economic development for both countries in a manner that meets common aspirations and goals,” said Shaikh Salman.

He stressed the importance of further bolstering economic partnership, whose advantages will benefit joint development projects. The committee is one of the five emanating from the Saudi-Bahraini Co-ordination Council, co-chaired by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince Prime Minister, and Saudi Crown Prince, Deputy Premier and Defence Minister Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud.

He praised the high level of co-operation, supported by His Majesty King Hamad and Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud.

The two sides discussed key initiatives which concern, particularly, the sectors of commerce, industry and energy, in addition to strengthening technical co-operation and exchanging expertise.
