Iraq has awarded 12 projects worth around 37 million Iraqi dinars ($25 million) in the Southern Dhi Qar Governorate as part of a post-war reconstruction programme, the local press reported on Sunday.

The projects cover roads and bridges, water sewage networks, installation of water pumps in various areas and other infrastructure projects.

Announcing the projects on Saturday, Dhi Qar Governor’s office said all the projects had been awarded to local companies and that tenders for more rebuilding projects would be issued soon, adding that over 80 firms are lining up for such projects.

The largest project awarded involves the construction of new roads in several areas of Dhi Qar at a cost of around 11 billion dinars ($9.5 million) and it would be completed within 720 days, said the statement, which was carried on Sunday by Aliqtisad news and other Iraqi publications.
