Emirates Airlines has announced it will be offering lower fares to student travellers in a bid to stimulate travel demand, which remains muted amid the coronavirus pandemic.

The new deal will allow students to avail themselves of special discounts off Economy and Business class tickets, as well as extra baggage allowance and an option to change bookings free of charge.

The Dubai-based carrier said the offer will enable students to see more of their family and “more of the world” during the school year.

It applies to bookings done not later than October 31. Bookings can ben changed up until seven days prior to departure.

The airline said that other non-student passengers, such as family or companion, can also benefit from the discount, as long as they are accompanied by the student on one of the trip sectors.

Travel demand has plummeted due to the coronavirus pandemic, causing airlines to lose billions of US dollars in revenues.

While travel restrictions around the world have been gradually lifted, the overall passenger traffic remains at low levels compared to last year, according to the International Air Transport Association (IATA).
