Abu Dhabi: The Department of Transport (DoT) and the Integrated Transport Centre (ITC) in Abu Dhabi organized the Students Safety Forum in Fairmont Bab Al Bahr Hotel. The forum was attended by the Ministry of Education, Department Of Urban Planning and Municipalities, Child Protection Centre –Ministry of Interior, Abu Dhabi Quality and Conformity Council, Department of Education and Knowledge, Department of Health, Abu Dhabi Police, Abu Dhabi General Services Company (Musanada) and Abu Dhabi Early Childhood Authority. The forum addressed many projects that support students’ safety in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi.

The forum is organized as part of ITC’s endeavor to enhance the cooperation opportunities between the stakeholders and develop the Students’ Safety System like school transport, infrastructure, intelligent systems, drivers and buses. The projects that were launched to enhance the safety of the students like stop-arm cameras, increasing the awareness campaigns and workshops, improvements around school areas, traffic management and intelligent systems in buses.

These initiatives and projects target all public and private schools in Abu Dhabi. Main challenges that face the Students’ Safety System were discussed because of the cooperation between ITC and its stakeholders. All parties discussed plans and projects proposed to overcome these challenges and increase the level of safety. The plans included setting standards to decrease the amount of accidents, increase the level of awareness of the drivers and supervisors and increase the security and safety in areas around schools. One of the main outcomes of the forum is the importance of complying with the regulations of the school transport by drivers, supervisors and schools.

About the Integrated Transport Centre in Abu Dhabi:

The Integrated Transport Centre (ITC) has been established pursuant to the law issued by H.H. Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, in his capacity as the ruler of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, on November 2016, in amendment of Law no. 19 of 2006 regarding Taxi regulation in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi. ITC is affiliated with the Department of Transport and is supervised by it.

ITC is the responsible entity for operating public transport and managing parking spaces, traffic monitoring centres, axle weights stations, logistical facilities of freight surface transport and roads sector according to the approved transport plans in which improves the quality of services offered in the sector. In addition to supporting the efforts dedicated by Abu Dhabi Government to accomplish a balanced and comprehensive development that nurtures an intelligent, integrated and sustainable transport sector in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi.
