ArabFinance: The Egyptian government carried out 20 total development projects worth EGP 4.3 billion in the agricultural sector during fiscal years (FYs) 2018/2019 and 2019/2020, the planning minister Hala el Said revealed on November 26th.

The minister noted that 13 of the developments were implemented in North and South Sinai during FY 2019/2020 at total investments of EGP 1.8 billion.

She added that the projects’ value in FY 2019/2020 marked a growth rate of 86% when compared to the prior FY.

Agricultural developments in the Red Sea governorate followed with two projects worth EGP 50.2 million, El Said announced.

Matrouh governorate, meanwhile, saw the implementation of one project at EGP 800,000 in value.

The government also executed four joint projects at a total investment cost of EGP 2.5 billion, according to the statement.

“The completed projects also saved 4.5 billion cubic meters of water, as a result of developing irrigation systems, removing weeds, planting water-saving strains, and laser leveling soil for an area of 8.8 million feddans,” El Said commented.

The minister earlier revealed allocations worth EGP 6.8 billion for the development of Sinai Peninsula during FY 2020/2021.
