Manama, AGU: The Arabian Gulf University (AGU) recently participated in the second meeting of the joint working group, which was held between those concerned with the strategic plan of the Committee of Ministers of Higher Education and Scientific Research, and the heads and directors of universities in GCC states.

The University was represented in the meeting by Students Affairs Dean Dr Abdulrahman Yousif, who joined the attendees in discussing the axes of the joint plan and the priority initiatives in the work of the unified strategic plan, in addition to reviewing the general framework of the project that was approved by the ministers of education and scientific research, and the development of initiatives for each strategic goal in line with the new circumstances imposed by the Coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic.

These initiatives included developing frameworks for teaching, learning and evaluation in e-learning, distance and blended learning systems, and uniting efforts and cooperation in studying the effects of the pandemic on the higher education sector and the means to confront it.

The meeting also approved that the smaller teams in the committee would prepare the detailed tables of the initiatives of each strategic goal, and then formulate the operational plan and submit it for approval.

The unified strategic plan aims to strengthen cooperation between GCC states  in the field of higher education and scientific research by focusing on common strategic priorities during the coming period, such as upgrading cooperation in the fields of scientific research and innovation to enhance the knowledge economy and enrich human knowledge, as well as cooperation in strengthening the educational process in higher education institutions in GCC states.

Additionally, the plan also seeks promoting community, regional and international partnerships in the field of higher education and scientific research, defining frameworks and systems to achieve cooperation and joint integration in the field of higher education, in addition to building and strengthening institutional capacities to keep pace with dealing with the implications of future transformations in higher education and scientific research. In pursuit of these goals, the team included in the plan a number of initiatives in various axes related to higher education and scientific research.

It is worth mentioning that a work team has been previously assigned to set the features of the plan; vision, mission and strategic goals, as the plan aims to enhance the efforts of students, professors and researchers in GCC states, in order to raise the quality of higher education and achieve the goals of sustainable development, and determining the paths and pillars on which the strategic plan must be established.

This cooperation comes in line with the aspirations of the leaders of GCC countries towards the promoting joint Gulf action in various fields.
