JEDDAH — Saudi Arabia and Egypt have underlined the need to prevent further escalation and ease tension in the Gaza Strip, according to a press release from the Egyptian foreign ministry.

In a phone call on Saturday, Saudi Arabia’s Foreign Minister Prince Faisal Bin Farhan and his Egyptian counterpart Sameh Shoukry discussed the rapid developments in the Palestinian territories, particularly in the Gaza Strip, Gaza Strip as part of the coordination between the two ministers on efforts to deal with the situation.

During the phone call, the two ministers exchanged viewpoints on means of resolving the matter to restore calm.

They also agreed on continuing coordination and consultation with all parties in the coming period to bring an end to the military escalation in the Gaza Strip, and prevent the deterioration of the situation into a full-scale confrontation, which in turn would have grave repercussions on regional peace.

The ministers stressed the importance of resuming peace efforts as the right path to reach a two-state solution and retain all the legitimate Palestinian rights to establish an independent state, with East Jerusalem as its capital.

During the call, Prince Faisal was also apprised about the latest efforts that Egypt is making with all the concerned parties to reach an immediate ceasefire.
