UAE-based budget carrier Flydubai is expanding its services on the UAE-Romania route after seeing strong passenger demand.

Starting from March 20, 2021, the low-cost airline will operate twice-weekly flights between Dubai and the European state’s second-largest city, Cluj-Napoca.

The new service will increase Flydubai’s operations in the Romanian market to a total of 16 weekly flights.

In 2012, Flydubai launched its first flight to Bucharest, Romania’s capital and commercial centre.

“Since then, Flydubai has more than tripled its operations to the market as demand has grown for commercial and cargo traffic between Romania and the UAE,” said Ghaith Al Ghaith, chief executive officer of Flydubai.

“We are excited to offer more options for convenient direct airlinks to the market with the start of our flights to Cluj-Napoca and we look forward to further stimulating travel and trade flows in both directions.”

Flydubai currently operates a double daily service between Dubai International and Bucharest Henri Coanda International Airport.

The new service that will kick off next month will cater to passengers travelling between Dubai International and Avram Iancu International Airport Cluj, which is considered an important gateway to the north-western region of Romania.
