Riyadh - The Saudi Arabian Oil Co, known globally as Saudi Aramco, revealed its new fourth industrial revolution (4IR) centre as part of its initiative for developing advanced digital technologies including artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning, and big data.

The new facility will support the company’s operational performance to improve efficiency and cost savings and strengthen its leading role in the oil and gas industry, the company said in a statement.

The 4IR centre “will play a key role in accelerating the digital transformation across Saudi Aramco,” senior vice president of the company’s technical services, Ahmad Al-Saadi, said.

An area of 2,500 square metres of office space in in Dhahran's Al-Midra Tower was re-modeled during the construction process.

“The facility features 279 square metres of video walls, with a total of more than 109 million pixels pitch that split into multiple clusters and zones,” the statement added.

The 4IR centre includes the artificial intelligence (AI) hub, “focused on developing advanced analytics and machine learning solutions in hydrocarbon related applications,” and virtual reality (VR) zone, “used to develop, prototype, and train for augmented and virtual reality,” according to the statement.
