Etihad Airways has entered into a codeshare agreement with Air Arabia Abu Dhabi, the UAE capital’s first low-cost carrier, providing flyers with new destination options.

The new airline has recently been formed through a joint venture between Air Arabia and Etihad Airways, with the aim to establish an independent low-cost carrier operating out of Abu Dhabi International Airport.

It will kick off its maiden flight next week with a direct flight to Alexandria in Egypt. It will start its operations with two Airbus A320 aircraft based at Abu Dhabi International Airport.

Under the new codeshare agreement, travellers will be able to book Etihad flights in conjunction with Air Arabi Abu Dhabi services.

Etihad will place its “EY” code on Air Arabia’s first flight from Abu Dhabi to Alexandria on July 14, followed by the Nile city of Sohag on July 15.

The UAE’s national flag carrier has plans to expand the destinations under the partnership in the coming weeks.
