Dubai: Ellington Properties, Dubai’s leading design-led property developer, hosted a well-attended community event at the courtyard of Belgravia in Jumeirah Village Circle (JVC) to help raise awareness surrounding breast cancer.

Speakers included Dr. Sharon Mendoza, a faculty member at Skyline University College and recipient of the Nobel Hero Award in the UAE in 2018 for her services to the community through her fight against cancer advocacy. The second speaker was Ghadeer Kunna, a policy and strategy adviser who survived stage four breast cancer and offers her message to other women to help give up the stigma.

Paula Wehbeh, Head of Business Strategy at Ellington Properties, said: “It was great to see such a good turn-out of residents at our latest Belgravia community event. As a home-grown, Dubai-based developer with a focus on the customer, we also invest in enhancing their well-being. This important event is not only aligned with global campaigns in the fight against breast cancer, it also underlined our commitment to our communities, helping residents in raising awareness and understanding what steps they can take in terms of health checks.”

This latest Ellington Properties initiative falls under the developer’s healthy community program. Led by the International Agency for Research on Cancer, the Breast Cancer Awareness Month is part of the global campaign running throughout October and features a broad range of initiatives including community activations, videos, tweets and infographics focusing on the global burden of breast cancer. In 2018, there were an estimated 2.1 million new cases of breast cancer and 627,000 deaths from breast cancer worldwide.

In the upcoming months, Ellington Properties will be organising a series of fitness and healthy living activities for the Belgravia community under Ellington Properties healthy community programme.
