Dubai: Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) announced the participation of 20 South Korean companies in the 21st Water, Energy, Technology, and Environment Exhibition (WETEX 2019), organised by DEWA under the directives of HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, and under the patronage of HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai, Minister of Finance and President of DEWA. WETEX 2019 will take place from October 21-23 at the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre, and will coincide with the fourth Dubai Solar Show, the region's largest renewable and sustainable energy technology exhibition. Both exhibitions are held under the umbrella of the sixth Green Week.

“The exhibition has become an important event among international programmes that specialise in technology, energy and water sectors; enhancing the UAE in clean and renewable energy sectors. Thanks to the directives of His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE; and His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, the UAE has become one of the international leaders in these fields. The UAE has strategies, investments, innovative projects that diversify energy sources and ensure a brighter future for generations to come, especially in the field of solar energy within the framework of the UAE Centennial 2071 and the UAE Vision 2021,” said HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA and Founder and Chairman of WETEX.

Al Tayer pointed to the close relations between DEWA and a number of Korean companies that take part in its projects. These include the Korean Electric Power Company (KEPCO) and Korea’s Doosan. He also underlined the shared vision of the UAE and South Korea in environmental protection, commending Korea for joining the Countries Platform, one of the platforms of the World Green Economy Organisation (WGEO) based in Dubai.

“We are pleased with South Korea’s annual participation in WETEX. This enhances collaboration and widens investments in renewable energy and the environment. WETEX provides an important meeting point to exchange information and skills,  optimise renewable energy in smart cities, research and development projects, Internet of Things, Big Data, and Unmanned Aerial Vehicle, among others,” Al Tayer added.

South Korean companies participating in the exhibition will showcase their latest and most innovative products in the fields of pressure control systems, water and sewage flow, industrial and agricultural water pipes, leakage control devices, thermal insulation technologies, environmentally friendly water tanks, sewage treatment systems and waste disposal systems, conservation of water resources and water quality, operation and maintenance of power plants, power transmission equipment, networks and systems, maintenance of thermal and desalination plants, renewable energy services, among others.

Bilateral relations between the UAE and South Korea has climbed to new strategic heights covering all vital areas including oil, renewable energy, education and training, construction, construction, environment, health care, construction and construction of offshore oil platforms, transportation, communications, information technology, aerospace and others. The cooperation between the two countries continues to witness remarkable development in many fields, especially in the field of Fourth Industrial Revolution technologies and Artificial Intelligence. In 2017, trade exchange between the UAE and South Korea reached USD 14 billion, of which USD 6 billion was generated by Korea's exports to the UAE and USD 8 billion by imports from the UAE.

South Korean expertise was highly instrumental in one of the UAE’s most important mega-projects ‘Barakah,’ which is aimed at the production of nuclear energy for peaceful purposes. In addition, a number of renewable energy projects that rely on solar and wind technologies have also been developed, apart from floating solar energy storage and energy generation from waste.
