The training was part of a four-day technical capacity-building program, attended by 57 staff and auditors, introducing Halal concepts in Islamic Sharia, and qualifying technical auditors in standards for these products.
The global halal economy is estimated at $ 6.4 trillion in 2018, as the GCC imports $ 50 billion of halal products, making the halal food sector one of the most attractive sectors in the Islamic economy.
The training course was in accordance with UAE Standard No. 2055-2: Halal Products - Part Second: General requirements for the issuers of halal certificates, to qualify Korean auditors working in the field of halal.
The training also included certification mechanisms, inspection and control procedures for food products, cosmetics, and other fields based on UAE standards.
The UAE is leading the Arab and regional efforts in Halal industry, and the Emirates Authority for Standardization and Metrology "ESMA", signed last year, a memorandum of understanding with a the Arab Industrial Development and Mining Organization, to implement the first unified Arab system of "Halal", including 21 countries
A training course was held for residents of the Korean Accreditation board, in conjunction with the training, in order to qualify them to perform accreditation tasks for the issuers of halal certificates located in the Republic of Korea according to the UAE standard.
These courses were designed and implemented by technicians of the Emirates Authority for Standardization and Metrology, especially in conjunction with the commencement of the Republic of Korea to improve the infrastructure for Halal products in order to enhance and increase the volume of trade with the UAE.
Spreading the UAE halal system, raising the technical capabilities and competencies of those working in this field, consolidating the halal culture of other peoples in a way that facilitates global trade exchange and enhancing the leading role of the UAE which has one of the best halal systems worldwide.
The Emirates Authority for Standardization and Metrology (ESMA) is the federal authority approved by the United Arab Emirates to exercise administrative responsibilities by unifying management, supervision and coordination of standards, regulations, and quality control. The Authority's policy is drawn up by a board of directors headed by a UAE minister and includes representatives of the relevant federal and local government entities.
The Emirates Authority for Standardization and Metrology (ESMA) was established as a financially and administratively independent federal body under Federal Law No. 28 of 2001. The Authority provides standards, metrology, conformity assessment and accreditation services in accordance with international requirements and practices. The Authority has developed the services and increased the performance to an equivalent international bodies level providing similar Standardization services.
