A new report from Arab Advisors Group analyzes the cellular tariffs for 48 cellular operators in 19 Arab countries by May 2018. Lebanon and Mauritania had the highest average prepaid and postpaid package rates.  Egypt scored the lowest average postpaid package rate and Jordan the lowest average prepaid package rate.

The analysis of the cellular rates in the Arab World has revealed that the average postpaid package rate for the 19 Arab countries was US$ 86.00, by May 2018. By May 2018, the average prepaid package rate for the 19 Arab countries was US$ 104.47.

Arab Advisors Group analyzed the cellular rates of 48 cellular operators in the following nineteen Arab countries: Algeria,

Bahrain, Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, KSA, Lebanon, Libya, Mauritania, Morocco, Oman, Palestine, Qatar, Sudan, Syria, Tunisia, the UAE, and Yemen. In order to allow for comparisons, the report focuses on the average bundled cellular rates of these countries’ operators. In calculating the average bundled cellular rates, Arab Advisors Group relied on the lowest packages’ rates that satisfied three usage criteria of users; light, medium and heavy. The rates analyzed were as of May 2018.

“Nine countries had fair average postpaid package rates in terms of "relative pricing status”. Meanwhile, seven countries had fair average prepaid package rates.” Ms. Lama Shamayleh, a research analyst at Arab Advisors Group added.

“Eight countries imposed connection fees for the prepaid monthly packages that were included in the analysis. Bahrain scored the highest average prepaid connection fees, standing at US$ 8.42. Moreover, three countries imposed connection fees for the postpaid monthly packages that were included in the report. The average postpaid connection fees for the three countries stood at US$ 22.14, by May 2018.” Ms. Hala Asfour, a research analyst at Arab Advisors Group added.
