Dubai, United Arab Emirates: Emirati media is playing a critical role in tackling the challenges faced by the nation with their objective and professional news coverage, according to panelists at the fourth annual Emirati Media Forum organised by the Dubai Press Club today.

Panelists at the session titled ‘Shaping a National Vision: The Media’s Role’, said that local media has been largely successful in communicating facts objectively to the public and to the world.

Speakers on the panel included Mohammed Al-Hammadi, Editor-in-Chief, Al Ittihad newspaper; Mona Bu Samra Managing Editor-in-Chief, Al Bayan newspaper; Raed Barqawi, Executive Editor-in-Chief, Al Khaleej newspaper; and Sami Al Reyami Editor-in-Chief, Emarat Al Youm newspaper.

Bu Samra highlighted the importance of adopting a balanced discourse in addressing the current situation, and called on journalists to address issues objectively. Al-Hammadi said that in this challenging period, journalists should renew their efforts to cover the news objectively and professionally.

Al Reyami said that, at a time when technological developments have helped media reach a wider audience and become more powerful, it is vital to ensure the accuracy of news.

Panelists also discussed the role of constructive criticism in the development process. The editorial policy of local media is based on the local culture and its emphasis on values such as tolerance and spreading joy and happiness among people, they said.
