JEDDAH: The Saudi Commission for Tourism and National Heritage (SCTNH) has called on the hospitality and travel industry to identify staff needs so that training can be provided for Saudis to take up these positions. In a circular, the SCTNH's Makkah branch said that the training would be held in cooperation with the Takamul center, the National Organization for Joint Training and the Human Resources Development Fund. The SCTNH said that it was important for companies to provide detailed information about their needs.
Mohammad bin Abdullah Al-Omari, director general of the SCTNH in Makkah, said the training is for major travel companies and hotels. The 12 jobs identified for Saudis include front desk, events, food and beverage, hotel marketing, hotel accounting, human resources and room service. Exceptions include the positions of chef, booking and tickets, air shipping, tourist program designer, marketing official and tourist sales. Al-Omari said the training would be provided over 36 weeks with secondary school qualification as a minimum requirement. He said the program offers several benefits including a guaranteed job in the private sector and full salary during practical training.
The training period would be determined by an applicant's experience. Trainees would receive SR3,000 during theoretical training, receive a payment of one month's salary after one year working and a training session. After two years, the employee will be given a reward of a one-off payment of two months' salary and a training session from the Human Resources Development Fund. Establishments can register their trainees for social insurance at the start of the training period.
All successful trainees would get a certificate from the National Organization for Joint Training. The SCTNH stated that this program would ensure that private sector companies get skilled workers. It would also help them meet Nitaqat quotas because the trainees can be counted as full employees from the start of the training period. Private sector companies can also choose the best candidates and receive 50 percent support for wages from the Human Resources Development Fund during the first year the trainees are employed full time, the SCTNH said.
